High Tea

I forgot to post a few pictures of the High Tea we enjoyed at home two weeks ago.  Geoff was able to take off from work a couple of hours early that day and join us at the dining room table for some yummy food and lovely conversation...not to mention the bubble gum and chai tea options.  The kids and I prepared the savoury foods that morning, and I bought the fancy cookies to save on a little work.  Everyone ate so well that we didn't need dinner that night!

I made four kinds of sandwiches:  Cream cheese and cucumber; peanut butter and honey; chicken salad with finely diced cranberries (yum); and ham and cheese (not pictured).

Matthew made scones in the morning, and whipped a little heavy cream to go with the strawberry jam that we also served.  The scones were delicious!

Here we are gathered around the table (that's Geoff facing the camera, still dressed up from work).  I pulled out some lovely pastel dishes my Mom gave me a few years back and we sat at the not-often-used-for-anything-other-than-schoolwork dining room table.  I had planned to read poetry during High Tea, but forgot to pick up the books I'd ordered from the library...so we just enjoyed our conversation and the fancy finger foods.

The kids loved it...so did Geoff and I.

I hope to make High Tea once every few months...it's a lovely break from the everyday, a reason to continue to work at table manners, and a way in which I can simply treat my children a little.
