My first attempt at a braiding style...granted, I'm a novice and the braids could be a lot better, but I think she looked pretty darn adorable...and she got tons of compliments at church yesterday morning. Most importantly, Lizzie loved the look!
(PS. It took 100 minutes to shower/shampoo/condition/seal/condition/detangle/part/style her hair...most of that time was spent detangling and parting the hair)
Piggyback braids
Goodness gracious, you really should be proud of yourself! Your little lady looks thrilled and rightly so. Absolutely lovely. 100 minutes is quite the investment, but the best part of that is that the hair is only part of the process. The other part is 100 minutes spent with your daughter as she watches you try new things, care for her in all the right ways, while showing her that her hair is important and she's worth great effort. You'll get a lot of bang for your buck with those 100 minutes. :) Well done!
ReplyDeleteTHanks Janelle!! Lizzie and I spent the entire time talking, as we usually do during the time I'm detangling.
ReplyDeleteAt one point towards the end of our 100 minutes, I was trying hard to braid and struggling a bit. I said to Lizzie "LIzzie, I'm sorry I'm not better at this; I feel badly that I don't know how to braid better, but I'm going to keep learning." She got this horrified look on her face and said, "MOMMY! You are wonderful at this. You are doing such a good job. Don't say that!!"
I was very moved that she so loved my clumsy efforts and just liked that I was doing it! That was worth the whole 100 minutes right there.
Thanks again Janelle!!
Hugs,
Ruth
Fantastic Ruth- you did a great job! Lizzie looks adorable.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great lesson you modelled to her that you are learning too, right along with with.
Thanks Kristin!!
ReplyDeleteAnd may I say...what a faithful commenter you are...thank you!!
Hugs,
Ruth
That looks so cute, Ruth! You did that in 100 minutes? I am so slow.
ReplyDeleteOK, Sharon, no one could EVER call me fast when it comes to Lizzie's hair.
ReplyDeleteHowever, for me life changed when we bought that Tangle Teezer brush. It usually takes me 1.25 hours to comb through Lizzie's hair with the usual wide-tooth pick, but only about 35 minutes with the Tangle Teezer. That's a huge difference in the routine. I can't use the Tangle Teezer every time, but when I can it's amazing!
It took me 20-25 minutes just to part her hair - I find this sooo hard, and I'm hoping I get faster with experience.
The next time I do this style (and YES, yay, there will be a next time!) I will probably skip the braiding and try just little piggyback ponytails...that'll save even more time.
Oh, and the next time I do any styling, I want to try banding her hair first the night before, which I have been learning about and want to try because I think it would be way easier to work with her hair stretched a bit.
Anyway, this topic could really go on for hours, couldn't it??!!
The hair, oh the hair. I would never have thought that I'd have to add line items to a day's/week's agenda just based on my daughter's HAIR...but it's so time-consuming to care for it properly that it really and truly does need to be planned for!!
But it is so beautiful!
Thanks Sharon!
Ruth
Her hair looks beautiful, great job! I love the look of joy on her face.
ReplyDeleteFantastic job! You are really good at parting. They look perfect. I really struggle with parting. It looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks LIanne!! That's real praise coming from you! Especially since you're the one who led me to this style!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the parting is hard...it seems to take forever...especially when Lizzie squirms because the comb end that I use to part it tickles her.
Anyway, thanks!!
Ruth
That looks wonderful. I love how the hair on her neck makes little tiny ringlets. Time to go visit the lady at Costco? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that the time you spent was sweet for you and Lizzie.
Just beautiful, and she looks thrilled!
ReplyDeleteWoot, woot! Lizzie's hair looks great!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job Ruth. It does get easier as time goes on and you find your rythem and what works and doesn't work for you and Lizzie :)
Cheers Char
Thanks Char...and for the encouragement that it gets easier!
ReplyDeleteCheers coming back your way,
Ruth
so, so impressed! Phil says "WOW" looks great!
ReplyDeletecongratulations!
Thanks Donna and Phil...that just made my day!!!!!
ReplyDeleteR
Yah!! Great job!! It is so time consuming, but once it is in it is so much easier to care for than loose hair. Can't wait to see more styles that you try out!!
