A few days ago, I wanted Matthew to read to his Daddy a short story that he'd read earlier that day during his reading lesson...something about a little fish and his mommy, whom the little fish identifies as a "fat fish" (which I found a bit insulting, perhaps because it hit a little too close to home!). But I digress....
Matthew wasn't really in the mood to read, so he suggested that we alternate reading lines of the story out loud. I agreed, and then proceeded to read the first line. In order to engage him in the process, I pretended that I was having a hard time reading a number of the words; sure enough, he jumped in to help me sound out the words and, eventually, he took over and read the rest of the story.
I thought it was hilarious when, a few moments after the story was finished, I overhead him whispering to Geoff, in a very condescending tone, "I guess Mommy's not such a good reader after all."
Obviously she's just a better writer than reader... :) Great story Ruth, almost spit out my water this morning when I read that...
