Highlights of the Past Few Weeks...in Pictures

Here are some highlights of our past three or four weeks...we've so enjoyed this fall season!

Face painting at our adoption agency's annual fall BBQ.  Meowwww!

Remember my description of the worst garage sale in history?  Well, here are the pictures to prove it!  Below, dropped into a large cooler, were the offerings...mostly paper airplanes and a few junky throw-away toys thrown in!  It just speaks to the kindness of our neighbours, who bought enough airplanes to help our kids 'earn' $4.60 each!

Eating chocolate bars one neighbour brought over for them while they awaited the masses.

(below)
One of the kids' favourite snacks...broccoli with shavings of parmesan melted overtop!  Strange, but wonderful, no?  Don't get me wrong...they love their junk food and candy, too, but they're really, generally, great eaters...all three of them. (not sure why I don't have a shot of Seth and his broccoli, but oh well!)  In case you're wondering, Lizzie is wearing one of her sleep caps...she must wear one to bed to prevent the worst of the tangling.

I mentioned recently that the boys have been helping me by unloading the dishwasher pretty regularly.

A couple of lunches we've enjoyed recently:  pita with curried chicken (with green onions, celery, a homemade dressing with curry powder in it, and lots of halved grapes); and cream cheese/avocado/cucumber/carrot sandwiches.

A terrible picture of the kids trying to look into the sun, but we had a great time on our annual pumpkin patch h/school day.

Waiting for a turn to fire tennis balls at a barn facade!

One of the funniest parts of the day to me was watching Matthew and a particular cow on the farm engage in a stand-off...on either side of the fence.  They stood like this for about 20 minutes, just starting intently at each other.  I'm not sure what was up with that cow, but she was absolutely riveted by Matthew.  When he moved, she moved, too, and continued to stare unblinkingly at him.  It was funny!

The duck races were at hit, as always.  Look at the look on Seth's face...purely competitive!

Lizzie's shirt got totally soaked in the front, from pumping water.

(below)
Eating hot dogs and watching the geese land by the thousands at a local nature preserve (along with my niece).

Matthew still loves building things for his various teddies.  Here are a few current favourites:  Duckie; Floppy; and Cookie.  Note that Duckie is wearing a diaper, made by Matthew.  Behind the teddies is a bunk bed that Matthew made for them, complete with wall decorations (the monkey and the frog) and blankets.  On the third picture you can see the slide he's built for their entertainment, overtop of a small tennis court!  In another part of our house (not shown here), he's also built them a workout gym and a bathroom! Creative kid.

I mentioned before that Matthew recently got into a juniors curling program...though he's only a couple of lessons in, so far he's loving it!!  Here he is (in the green hoodie) learning how to sweep, and throwing his first ever rock.
(below)
Here you can see Matthew's rock making its way up the centre of the ice...it ended up knocking two others out of the way...beginner's luck, but he was beaming about it!

The kids with a couple of their cousins, having a great time outside of a local market.

And a few final shots of the five of us from this month!

  2. Stunning pictures of children leading such vibrant lives! You look happy and lovely, Ruth. Your efforts are paying off and you have a bunch of photo evidence! P.S.- I think anyone looking at these pics wants to eat at your house too. :)
