A Practical Application of Division

On Monday, I was telling Geoff about how well Matthew was doing in understanding his Grade 3 Math...particularly the concepts of multiplication and division and when to apply them.

Geoff took it upon himself to test the truth of this and gave Matthew the following simple problem:

"Matthew, if I gave six cookies to you for the three of you [kids], how many would you each get?"

Matthew:  "Sheesh Dad, that's easy.  I get six; they get none."

I'm not sure it's Math we need to be working on.

  1. Too funny! What a sharp mind he has! Maybe try a vegetable-based equation next time!

  2. Yeah, that wouldn't work - he'd just say 6 for Lizzie and none for him or Seth!
