YAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!

Soooo much to talk about but I have had so little time.  I'm dying to talk about everything that's happened this week, but the most important stuff comes first...

We met the kids!  We spent two hours with them this morning and it went great.  They are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!  They are healthy looking (some head fungus, likely some parasites) and are heavier than I would have thought.  After the first twenty minutes or so, we started getting lots of smiles, and Asrat even has a dimple!  They both sparkle when they smile.  They are truly BEAUTIFUL!!  Lizzie Senait's hair is longer than I've seen it in pictures and she is so adorable.  Tomorrow, the head nurse will show me how she combs Senait's hair.  They loved Dad, too...especially Seth Asrat...Dad got lots of smiles from him.

The head nurse said that she just loves Asrat because he's got a wonderful personality and because he loves affection - he loves being held and hugged, and wants to be attached.  Senait is extremely expressive, and her facial expressions are hilarious:  in about five seconds flat, she can change from huge sparkly smiles to a deep, disapproving frown accompanied by a steely look that could wilt flowers, to the lower lip coming out fully.  If someone tries to take something from her, she will NOT have it!  She is going to be. quite. the. handful.

Both kids seem very alert, engaged and well cared for.  Their teacher said that Asrat is very clever, and certainly my anxiety about the effects of longer term malnutrition have been reduced having seen him.  They both seem to have a good sense of humour in his eyes.

Anyway, they are lovely and they are ours!  We signed the paperwork today and got their visas and passports and tomorrow at 10:30am we are being picked up here to go and take custody!!!!!  In the afternoon, Imagine wants to drive us around a little and take us for a traditional meal (which frankly doesn't enthuse me cause I think it's too much for the kids, but whatever).  I can hardly wait!!!!

The ride has begun.  I can hardly wait for you to meet them!!!!!!!!

  4. Ruth, we're so happy for you! Imagine took us out too. You may want to be clear on what exactly you are doing with them. They said they'd pick us up at 5 for dinner. Great! But we got to the resturant, and it wasn't really open yet (?). (you;d think they'd of known that!). So he just drove us around for an hour (which none of us needed). We were all tired and really didn't need the experience - although the kids LOVED the food. I hope tomorrow goes well with you and the kids!

  13. Ruth,

I am so glad that as of tomorrow, it will be you who will be giving Seth Azrat all the hugs and affection that he longs for, and as the mother of a little girl who is also quite. a. handful, I'm still chuckling at the image you painted of Lizzie Senait's lower lip coming out! Welcome to the wonderful world of little girl dramatics! :)

    Hi Ruth,

So happy everything went well. I'd ask them to wait a day for the outing. We did and it was worth it. Take one day to just bond if you can. Solomon wanted to do it right away, but Hanna suggested to wait.

Have fun and enjoy the time you have there!!!
