Preserving Memories

A month or two ago, I discovered that one can print one's blog in a hard cover format.  It costs a bit of money, depending on how many pages you want to have printed, but I thought it might be a perfect way to keep the memories I've been recording.  So...I did it.  I chose a basic background for the cover, and it automatically included a picture (my profile picture) on the front and a table of contents inside.  I just received it last week, and I love it.  It's the size of a sheet of paper (8.5" x 11") and it's printed on very nice quality paper. I was surprised that I'd written 143 pages of stuff, covering August through December, 2009. I guess that means that many of you have also read the equivalent of a small book, just by reading my blog!

This morning, I skimmed through the first number of pages of my blog book, and I was amazed to realize how much I'd forgotten of what I've written since last August.  I can't help but think that some of the memories imbedded between the covers will be very nice to reflect on a decade or more from now.  I plan to do the same for 2010.

* Thanks for the comments on my Blog Book - I really love having it in hard copy.  In answer to your questions, I used the company Blog2Print (here's the link:  Blog2Print) and it was shipped out by a company called SharedBook Store.  It took about 4-6 weeks from time of order to time of receipt (I think it came from somewhere in the U.S.). The cost varies depending on how many pages; my book is 145 large pages and, including all taxes and shipping, cost me around $73-75.  Since ordering this book, I have learned that some photo printing companies do this type of work, too.  I may check out the local stores in the future, but have to say that I'm pretty happy with the output I received through Blog2Print.
* Justine, thanks for the tip about blurb books - I'll be checking them out for the next round of self-publishing!

  2. You know, I've been thinking about doing this too. I've got posts all the way back to 2006, which is what's stopping me -- since I'd probably have to take out a second mortgage on the house -- but it sure looks appealing. Where did you get yours done?

  4. Ruth,

Nice book, Ruth! But, there is a cheaper place to do it. I have done a ton of books at www.blurb.com. My son did a book of our holiday to California and it was 144 pages. It cost $49.95 plus $7.99 shipping.

My last book was over 400 pages long. It cost me $87, plus the $7.99 shipping. And all my books are in hardcover. You can get softcover, though.

I have been very pleased with them. The shipping time is not 4-6 weeks, but more like a couple weeks.
