Well, I did it. I bought a MacBook computer this afternoon to replace my old PC (and I do mean old! It was a five-year-old Dell notebook that last saw a good day way back in 2007 or so)! I got home about twenty minutes ago, sent Matthew upstairs immediately for his quiet time (with scarcely veiled impatience), and ran back to find my Apple bag. I then immediately dove for a comfy chair in the family room and took a moment to admire the lovely all-white packaging that housed my new baby. There I paused for a moment, contemplating what a friend of mine told me recently (another MacBook convert) - she said that she finds the Apple packaging so lovely that it borders on a sensual experience for her. (I've censored her comments somewhat in the interest of keeping my blog family friendly!) Thinking about her comments as I sat gazing at my beautiful new box, I sighed, unable to disagree with her. Then I unwrapped it and took out the lovely white machine...and I am compelled to say that it is a sexy looking little machine. Added to that, the way the keys feel under one's fingers is, well, rather lovely.
OK, Ruth, stay focused...
So, it's true what they say - the MacBook is incredibly user friendly in terms of set up. I mean, I am so incredibly non-technologically inclined and yet here I sit, twenty minutes after opening it up for the first time and I'm posting on my blog! That rocks.
Tomorrow I'm taking my old computer to the Apple store, where they will take a day or two to transfer all of my documents and email from the old system to the new. After that, they are going to give me a one-on-one tutorial to get me started on using my MacBook...and at that point, I'll finally have access again to my email and will hopefully feel like I can start to function again.
But for now, I'm simply thrilled to be able to have access to the internet and to my blog. I've missed being here.
Shannon and Sheldon, thanks for your comments yesterday (I thought I'd respond here rather than in the comments section as I usually do) - and Shannon, having read your comment post MacBook purchase, I'm so glad to hear how much you love your MacBook Pro. I may just yet be emailing you to find out about stuff! Sheldon, we may yet convert you to an Apple lover!
congrats on the new Mac!!
ReplyDeleteI've been tempted by Mac for sure but we're a pc family - though everytime Keith gets the urge to update to the next version of something I strongly consider a mac for me and a pc for him. He's not a mac guy so chances are my mac would stay just exactly the way I left it! :)
HI Ruth,
ReplyDeleteSo so happy for you.
I am also pretty useless in the world of computers and my mac sure has helped.
Enjoy your first night together and yes even the box is great. I was grinning reading your post.
Now we just need the good news from Imagine. What a day that will be !
Cant wait 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ............. we are so close
Hold on tight everyone we are almost there.
Shannon
Ruth, you've just made one of the best purchases! As an apple convert (married to a hard core apple-er...is that a word?)I have to say you're going to have a third love in your life :) (I'm assuming husband and kid come first...long may his quiet time last!)

I am jelous! My computer died this summer and as I cannot function without it either I went and bought a small netbook.... but really wanted an apple! Keep me updated as someday I too will make the jump to Apple!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to add that my first night with my MacBook was, indeed, lovely. We're still getting used to each other, but we're spending quite a lot of time together working on that!
