Two weeks ago, Geoff and the kids and I attended the art show where Matthew's (and many other kids') work was being exhibited for a couple of weeks. We were so impressed! Matthew had four paintings on exhibit, each featuring a different kind of art; the pictures below feature my two favourite pieces.

You can see the kids' art covering the walls of the public library. Apparently the exhibit was such a hit that various library patrons had been asking how they could purchase a piece of it. Pretty impressive considering that these were the works of children.
Can you tell why Seth and Lizzie enjoyed being at the art show? They tanked on the cookies that the art teacher brought!

I really, really loved this painting and couldn't believe how life-like the goose in flight looks. I've asked Matthew if he would consider giving me this painting when he gets it back from his teacher post exhibit, and he has promised to think about it!

Matthew was very proud to show off his work to his family...and maybe a little shy! Here he is being a little goofy with his Dad.

Matthew was thrilled to see the ad that had been tacked to a wall advertising 'his' art show...because his goose-at-sunset painting made the ad! (see the top left picture)
Matthew starts up again with art classes in January and it'll be interesting to see what techniques they learn this time 'round. I love that art has become a creative means of expression for him.
Wow! I love the fish picture! Excellent job Matthew! You should be very, very proud of your artwork.

Wow! Please pass on my compliments to the artist! Both the pictures you featured are spectacular.
ReplyDeleteMatthew, I love how you use colour, and how your subject (goose, fish) pops in front of an impressionist background. I am glad you shared your pictures in the art show, and that your mom shared them on her blog. I love you, and Merry Christmas to you and your brother and sister.
Beautiful artwork! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely pictures. How nice that the whole family participated in his exhibition.
ReplyDeletewhere was the class? pm me if you prefer. I've got a couple of kids who would LOOVE this.

Thanks guys...and I will pass along all of your comments to Matthew a little later (after he's finished playing with a few friends who are over!).
ReplyDeleteColleen, unfortunately, it's a class for h/schoolers that takes place on Friday mornings or Friday afternoons. The teacher is crazy busy and takes only a certain number of students (age 8+) and there's always a waiting list. But if your kids are interested, they have inexpensive classes at Forum Art Institute that are good, and the Artful Owl has some neat classes as well.
Thanks all!
Ruth
Those are fantastic!!!! I really like them..especially the vibrant colors.
