17 on the 17th

Seventeen years of marriage on the 17th day of the month.  Geoff and I have been married for seventeen years.  Wow do I feel old.  I remember my parents having their 15th anniversary, and surely they were older than I am now...well, actually they would have been quite a bit younger because they were younger than me when they married.  Hmm.  I feel even older now.

This is at least my third anniversary post since I began blogging.  Usually I've rambled on for a while  about some thing or another I appreciate about Geoff, and I'm sure that's all been true.  Blah blah blah.  This year, quite frankly, all I can think about it how he and I are going on a date today.  And even that's not quite the truth, because it makes it sound like I can hardly wait to celebrate my anniversary together.  Well, I am looking forward to it, true enough, but really, for me, I just want to leave the house - with him, without the children.  My parents are coming over this afternoon at 2:30/3:00 to look after the hellions children, and we have until about 7:00 before we have to get home for bedtime routines...and actually, though my parents don't know this yet, I'm going to try to squeeze them for an extra half hour by getting home for 7:30, which is really when Lizzie's bedtime needs to happen.

I have no idea what we're doing to 'celebrate,' other than it will likely involve either Indian food at some point (though at this hour of the morning, the thought of Indian food actually turns my stomach a bit).  I don't even care what we're doing, and could even live without the meal altogether.  I'd be happy just sitting in the van with the seats reclined and, get your mind out of the gutter, talking.  Alternatively, I'd be happy to see a matinee movie (hmm...wonder if he'd see the latest Twilight flick with me) and eat popcorn, and follow it up with a Starbucks Christmas concoction somewhere.   I. just. want. to. be. out. of. the. house. with. Geoff. and. without. children. for. only. the. second. time. in. over. six. months.

So...thanks anniversary, for giving me a legit excuse to call up my parents and beg for babysitting favours.

And oh yeah, Geoff, Happy Anniversary!

  4. Happy Anniversary, Ruth! Your post made me laugh because it was our anniversary on the 16th. We have never really gone out to celebrate before, but you can bet we did this year (also only our 2nd time out together without the kids since coming home!). Hope you had a great date! A
