Speaking as a 'Traditionally Built' Woman

Likely a number of you have read some or all of Alexander McCall Smith's series of books by the name of The Number One Ladies' Detective Agency.  For the uninitiated, this is a series of eleven (so far) books set in Botswana, Africa, that highlight a 'traditionally built' (I love that term) woman by the name of Mma Precious Ramotswe - a female private investigator who takes on, and solves, various cases in her slow-but-sure style, spreading bits of wisdom as she goes about her life.

The books are light reads that I have found to be delightful interludes over the years.  One of my aunts just loaned me the latest two books in the series, and I am now working on the second of those, The Double Comfort Safari Club.  I'd highly recommend them as a quick summer read if you're looking for a book that's humourous, upbeat, and somehow feel-good throughout.

* Glad so many people are enjoying these books!

  3. Hi Ruth,

Loved these as well. I found the first one a few summers ago at the airport and it was perfect for the plane.

I think it was HBO that did the first season for TV , I had heard the set and wardrobe are amazing but I have not had a chance to see them yet.

    Have a good afternoon

  6. Derrick and I both love these books! I grew up in Lesotho, which is very close to Botswana, so I get a kick out of all the similarities, but Derrick really enjoys them as well, so I read them to him when we travel. Makes for a great time together and a great way to make the trip go faster!
