A quick comment about a book I just finished reading: True Believer, by Nicholas Sparks. I picked this book up at Costco just before Christmas because I'd read (and loved) another of his books last year. In fact, Three Weeks with my Brother made my top ten list of 2009.
Well, don't bother with True Believer. It is a trite, obvious, exaggerated (I'd almost go so far as to say pathetic) attempt at a novel. Granted, I may be a bit harsh in my estimation, but for an author who produced a little gem like Three Weeks with my Brother, I'd expected way more. True Believer is not worth the time or the money, in this humble reader's opinion.
Do you hve your top ten list for 2009 posted on your blog? I'd love to take a look. I find Nicholas Sparks has some good books and some that are just so predictable and corny that I can't stomach them but it's hard to know from the back cover which ones are which so I read almost all of them to find the "gems". I will stay away from this one though based on what you've said.

Odd how Sparks has such an extreme writing style - some horrid, others terrific. Yeah, "corny" is the perfect word to describe the one I just finished.
