For a change of pace, and so that the kids would remember it, I served them ice cream cake and big mugs of (decaf) coffee for breakfast ('cause my kids adore coffee and it is the highlight of any special occasion!). They thought it was an "awesome" breakfast - I got six big thumbs up that morning!
To further mark the occasion, we headed out for the rest of the day: We went on a train ride - something that the kids have been wanting to do a while. Mid-way through the ride, the train stopped at a place where the kids could play with some small animals at a petting zoo and watch a magic show. They loved it (though Geoff and I thought it was a little on the slow side! lol).

I couldn't help but wonder whether or not the goats reminded Seth of life in Ethiopia...he was certainly drawn to them, but he was a little quiet in answering when I asked him about it.

Eating a piece of lemon meringue pie - Seth loves anything lemony!
All in all, it was a really good day and I think it's one the kids will remember fondly. I'm so glad that we're passed our one year mark - things are definitely sooo much better than even just a few months ago, and it's nice to be starting on our 'seconds' of everything with the kids. We're very, very thankful.
Happy 1 year! I love that you gave them coffee and icecream for breakfast-my kiddos love coffee too!
ReplyDeleteI love the cake! What an awesome day with the train ride and petting zoo!!!
ReplyDeleteIn some ways, I can hardly believe it's been a year home and in others, it feels like so much longer than that.
