Despite a very busy day today, all I've wanted to do all day was stare at the photos. They are beautiful. I needed to show them off, so when I went to my sister's to pick up my niece for a sleepover, I took my computer along and showed the photos to my sister/brother-in-law. I then invited my parents for dinner tonight to be able to show them the pictures personally, too...and they were suitably in awe of their grandchildren's beauty and complete wonderfulness! I think my Mom was almost as eager as I to stare at their pictures and expound on their various features and expressions and every nuance of the photos. We still have not seen a smile on our boy's face, so when that finally comes, we will rejoice to see what his face looks like transformed. Though our daughter is not smiling in these photos, we saw her smile repeatedly during our orphanage visit and we know how that smile of hers stretches right up to twinkly eyes.
The kids were moved into Imagine's Transition House (in Addis) on Friday, and have been told now that they are going to be joining a new family. Though I am glad that they are finally in the Transition House, I feel so badly for the kids, having had to undergo another big change like that; they have lived in the orphanage and been cared for by the same women for the past number of months, and this will be another loss in their young lives. I am relieved that this is the last change in surroundings for them until the day we are able to bring them home with us. I also find it comfort that the children have each other as constants in their lives; this is one of the reasons that we had longed for siblings, and as I contemplate the fear and anxiety that they must be experiencing these days, that knowledge is helpful.
When they arrived at the Transition House, the kids were given the gifts that we left there for them, and many of the pictures we received today show them opening their gifts...it was great to see them with the things we had chosen so carefully for them.
Now, without further ado, 'cause I know you're wanting to get to the good stuff, here are a few of the pictures we received of Seth Asrat and Lizzie Senait, taken just four days ago:

Digging into their gifts

I love that Lizzie Senait is looking at her photo album...and a picture of her new big brother!

Listening to the digital tape recorders that we left for each of them (with stories, songs, 'interviews' I did of Matthew, etc etc).
(below)
What I love about this photo is that Lizzie Senait has her new little doll tucked under her arm and is holding her tape recorder in that hand...this is exactly what she was doing the first time we laid eyes on her at the orphanage - she had a stuffed puppy tucked under that arm, and a toy in the same hand!
Oh Ruth-these pictures just melt my heart. I love how Lizzie is wearing her little pink hairband, and I couldn't help but think that with all the hardship Seth has been through, he still looks like such a little boy. I can't imagine how anxious you must be to just sweep them both up in your arms and never let them go. Thanks so much for sharing these precious photos with us!
ReplyDeleteThey are simply gorgeous, Ruth! It is so neat to see all your gifts finaly there. I remember seeing the photos of the blankets on your blog ages ago! Hopefully the happiness of having some 'things' will lessen a teensy bit of their sadness at being in yet another new place, at least for a few days.
ReplyDeleteThey are just so darn cute!!!! How do you get anything done and not just stare at their photos all day!!!
Claire
I love the "gift-bag-opening" pictures!
ReplyDeleteRuth,
ReplyDeleteThey are so lovely! How wonderful to get these photos! To think, our children are together in the TH now! How weird is that?! Let's hope things move quickly from here!

Morning Ruth,
ReplyDeleteOk so starting my day in tears ! I know time feels so slow in many ways and yet it does not feel that long ago that you had a post of what to buy as well as the photo's of the final package and now to see these items each chosen with love in these photo's makes me cry so much ! Do not worry I am smiling as well.
Can I say again how so very perfect and wonderful these two are.
Alright bring on the Visa's !!!!!!!!!!
I will be back many times as looking at them just once will not be enough.
love Shannon
They're fabulous Ruth! I also like that in each of the pictures, they are doing each activity in tandem. So cute! :)
ReplyDeleteKatie H.
So very happy for you all. They are adorable :)

Thanks guys. When I got up this morning, I ran for my computer so that I could stare at the photos again. My niece is here for a sleepover and she asked me just now, "Auntie Ruth, how come you like to stare at those photos so much??!!"
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I guess I should put the computer away for a while...at least until I pick up the prints I just ordered!
Blessings,
Ruth
Great wonderful Ruth. I LOVE the one of them listening to the recorders.

This makes my heart so happy. Doesn't it make it more tangible to see them holding the things that you carefully chose for them? They are enjoying each thing that you put in those bags. I love their expressions when they were listening to the recorders and seeing them looking through their photo albums and enjoying the stickers and markers. These small items will hopefully give them comfort in their strange new surroundings.
ReplyDeleteAnd they may not realize it yet, but they are on the countdown to their permanent home.
The Transition Home is their last stop before forever.
P.S. They are as beautiful as ever, but I long to see Seth's smile too.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, Ruth. I'm so excited for you! Don't feel bad about looking at the pictures so much - I've done the same thing. I looked at them constantly yesterday, and then I got prints the same day and put them in frames in our house. It's so fun! Can't wait to share the rest of this journey with you!
ReplyDeleteAnita
Oh Ruth, you must be over the moon! I remember the feeling of receiving updates so clearly. My co-workers got to be able to tell from my face when I had just gotten new ones. lol And to see your children with the gifts you sent, it's just the best!
ReplyDeleteYour children are absolutely precious, you lucky mama!
Chris
They are just beautiful Ruth. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour kids are soooooo adoreable, NOW bring on the visa to get these little kids home.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Very precious photos! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh Ruth, your kiddies are just so precious! We are so happy for them and for you! No worries, you're allowed to stare at those pictures for as long as you want...lol! Hugs, Tracey
ReplyDeleteAs an observation...they are obviously both right-handed, and can hold a marker properly...so there you go, homeschoolin mama! Something to build from!
ReplyDeleteThanks again everyone!
ReplyDeleteFlora, I'd noticed the right-handedness, but I hadn't noticed that they were holding the markers properly - and you're right! Some h/schooling mama I am!!
Ruth
So cute!!! I, of course, recognized Lizzie as soon as I saw her at KVI but I am pretty sure that I would not have recognized Seth even if I had seen the older children. It amazes me how different some children look compared to their referral photos. I hope time speeds by until you are back on that plane!
ReplyDeleteLianne
What great news!
ReplyDeleteokay... so these are BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN as well!! So glad to see them 'animated'!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to meet them!
